Higgsfield AI: what the plans actually buy
Higgsfield is the clearest example of a new category — the model aggregator. Instead of one engine, one subscription reaches dozens: Kling 3.0, Seedance 2.0, Google Veo 3.1, Wan, Hailuo, plus Higgsfield's own models, all spending a single credit balance. That is genuinely useful and it is also where people get caught out, because the monthly price tells you almost nothing about how many videos you get. This review is built from the vendor's own pricing page, help documentation and terms of service, dated, with the parts that cost money called out.
What it is
Higgsfield is an AI video and image platform launched in 2025 and headquartered in San Francisco. Its August 2026 company announcement reports over 30 million users. The product is best understood as three layers stacked on top of each other:
- A model catalogue. One credit balance is spent across third-party video models — Kling 3.0, Seedance 2.0 and 2.5, Google Veo 3.1, Wan 3.0, MiniMax Hailuo — and image models including Nano Banana Pro, alongside Higgsfield's own line: Soul 2.0, DoP, Popcorn, Genjutsu, and Cinema Studio 4.0.
- House tooling on top. Cinema Studio frames camera movement the way a shot list would; AI Influencer builds a reusable character; Lipsync Studio handles dubbing and lip-sync; Ads Studio and a UGC builder cover marketing formats.
- Plumbing that reaches other apps. Plugins for Premiere Pro, After Effects and DaVinci Resolve, plus an MCP server, a CLI, and a separate REST API.
That breadth is the pitch, and it is real. The rest of this page is about what it costs.
The plans, exactly
These figures are read from higgsfield.ai/pricing in October 2026. Note that older articles still circulating list a $9 tier and a Pro/Max/Basic naming scheme — that structure is gone, and budgeting from it will be wrong. Higgsfield's own blog now lists the same $15 / $49 / $129 ladder shown here.
| Plan | Monthly | Billed annually | Credits / month | Access |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | — | 0 | Preview only. Small model subset, no commercial use. |
| Starter | $15 | $15 (no difference) | 200 | Selected models only. Seedance limited to 2.0 Fast / 2.0 Mini. Up to 2 video + 4 image jobs in parallel. |
| Plus Best value | $49 | $39 (20% off) | 1,000 | All models and features, 4K quality, unlimited paid parallel generations. |
| Ultra | $129 | $99 (23% off) | 3,000 → 9,000 (tiered) | Lowest cost per credit, up to 8 parallel jobs, highest headroom. |
| Business | Per seat, published at checkout | Pooled | Team workspaces, centralised credits. Third-party figures suggest roughly $89/seat with a minimum seat count — confirm on the page. | |
Why credits vanish faster than the allowance suggests
This is the single most useful thing to understand before buying. Higgsfield does not sell videos; it sells credits, and the rate at which a generation consumes them is set per model, per resolution. The spread is enormous.
| Model · resolution · 5s | Credits | What that means on Plus (1,000/mo) |
|---|---|---|
| Higgsfield Soul 2.0 (image) | 0.12 / image | Thousands of images |
| Nano Banana Pro (image) | 2 / image | ~500 images |
| Seedance 1.5 · 480p | ~1 | Very cheap drafts |
| Higgsfield DoP Lite · 720p (3s) | ~3 | ~330 clips |
| Kling 3.0 · 720p | ~7 | ~140 clips |
| Kling 3.0 · 1080p | ~8 | ~125 clips |
| Kling 3.0 with sound | ~10 | ~100 clips |
| Wan 3.0 · 720p | 8.75 | ~114 clips |
| Seedance 2.0 · 720p | ~22 | ~45 clips |
| Google Veo 3.1 Fast · 720p (4s) | ~16 | ~62 clips |
| Kling 3.0 · 4K | ~30 | ~33 clips |
| Google Veo 3.1 · 720p (4s) | ~40 | ~25 clips |
| Seedance 2.0 · 1080p | ~45 | ~22 clips |
| Seedance 2.0 · 4K | ~110 | ~9 clips |
Read the first and last rows together. On the same subscription, the same five seconds costs 0.12 credits for a Soul 2.0 image and about 110 credits for a 4K Seedance 2.0 clip — a spread of roughly nine hundred times. The practical consequences:
- Starter's 200 credits is a trial, not a budget. Three Seedance 2.0 clips at 720p exhausts the month. If you generate daily, it will not last a week.
- Resolution is the cheapest lever you control. Dropping a Seedance 2.5 clip from 720p to 480p roughly halves the cost; drafting low and re-rendering the winner high is the standard way to make a month go further.
- "1,000 credits" is not a unit of video. Any article that converts credits directly into generations without naming the model and resolution is guessing. The two rows above that both say "5 seconds" sit 45 clips apart.
- The Generate button is the real price list. Higgsfield displays the charge before you confirm. Budget from that number, not from the plan card.
Expiry, rollover and spending order
Credits are not all the same, and this is where a well-intentioned top-up turns into a loss.
| Credit type | How you get it | Expiry |
|---|---|---|
| Subscription credits | Included with the plan | Reset at renewal — no rollover |
| Credit Pack | One-time purchase | 90 days |
| Auto-Refill | Automatic top-up at a threshold you set | 90 days |
| Boost credits | Concurrency boost packs | 90 days |
| Promo credits | Promotions or compensation | Date shown when issued |
Three mechanics follow from this, all confirmed in Higgsfield's own documentation:
- Unused subscription credits die at renewal. They do not fund next month. If you routinely finish the month with a large balance, you are on a plan larger than your actual usage.
- Spending order is fixed: subscription credits first, then remaining balances by soonest expiry. Good news for the burn rate; bad news if you were hoping promo credits would absorb the month and preserve the subscription allowance.
- Buying a big pack to "save money" is only a saving if you spend it inside 90 days. Otherwise you have pre-paid for credits you will never use. Note also that Higgsfield publishes pack sizes but not pack prices — several third-party guides confidently table prices for pack sizes the vendor does not actually sell.
The four surfaces that always bill
This is the most expensive misunderstanding in the product, and it is stated plainly in the help documentation: Unlimited access and included free generations apply on the higgsfield.ai website only. Generation through any of these other routes deducts credits regardless of plan:
- MCP — the agent-facing server
- CLI — the command-line client
- Canvas
- Supercomputer
MCP and CLI do spend plan credits and require an active subscription. So the same prompt, moved from the website into an automated workflow, changes how — and whether — it is billed. If you build a pipeline, price it separately from your website usage rather than assuming the Unlimited badge travels with you.
The API is a third, separate pool. It runs on a prepaid US dollar balance with a $5 minimum top-up, billed per second of video or per image, and funds expire one year after they are added. Website plans, plan credits and Unlimited access do not apply to API requests. Higgsfield states that failed and NSFW-flagged API requests are not billed and their cost returns to the balance automatically — worth knowing, because not every vendor refunds failures. On list rates the API puts 50-plus models behind one key, with Kling 3.0 from about $0.084 per second at 720p, or roughly $0.84 for a 10-second clip.
Rights, training use and refunds
Three terms decide whether this is usable for paid work, and one of them will surprise people.
You keep the output — on a paid plan
The terms of service state that Higgsfield claims no ownership of your inputs or outputs and places no commercial restriction on generations, and those rights survive cancellation and may be transferred to clients. The free plan is the exception: it does not include commercial use, which follows from the pricing table. If you are monetising, you need a paid tier for the licence, not just for the credits.
Your uploads may train the models
The same section states that the company may use inputs and outputs to train and improve its own models, with enterprise agreements exempt. This is not unusual in the category, but it belongs in the decision if you are uploading client material, unreleased product shots, or anyone's face. It also sits alongside the standard term that you are responsible for obtaining consent when you include another person's likeness or voice — which, in practice, is the rule that matters most when a character has to hold across a campaign.
The refund window is 7 days, and one generation closes it
A refund may be requested within 7 days of the initial purchase and only if zero credits have been used. Auto-renewed charges are stated as non-refundable, and where permitted a service fee of up to 6 percent may apply. Cancellation is done from the account's payment settings page or by emailing support from the registered address.
Who should buy it, and who should not
| If your situation is… | Verdict | Why |
|---|---|---|
| You are still choosing between models and want to compare outputs side by side | Buy it | One subscription, one balance, dozens of models. Beating that by buying Kling, Runway, Seedance and Veo separately costs far more than Plus. |
| You are building an automated pipeline | Buy the API | The API is a separate prepaid balance with per-second billing and refunded failures. Do not budget it from a website plan — and remember MCP/CLI bill credits even on an Unlimited model. |
| You already know exactly which model you want | Probably not | You are paying an aggregator margin on a single model you could reach directly. The catalogue stops being a feature. |
| You need a reusable spokesperson or an AI character across many posts | Buy it | AI Influencer, Soul identity and Cinema Studio casting are the house features, and they are the reason the subscription exists rather than the models. |
| You generate a handful of clips a month | Starter, monthly | But treat 200 credits as a trial. Three Seedance 2.0 720p clips exhausts it, so check which models Starter can even reach before paying. |
| You mostly need short vertical ad creative at volume | Compare alternatives | Purpose-built ad generators are priced for testing volume, not cinematic exploration. Higgsfield's credit economics reward control, not iteration count. |
Common questions
What is Higgsfield AI?
Higgsfield is an AI video and image generation platform launched in 2025 and based in San Francisco. Its defining feature is not a single model but a model catalogue: one credit balance is spent across third-party video models such as Kling 3.0, Seedance 2.0 and Google Veo 3.1, alongside image models like Nano Banana Pro, plus Higgsfield's own models (Soul 2.0, DoP, Genjutsu, Cinema Studio). It also ships plugins for Premiere Pro, After Effects and DaVinci Resolve. As of an August 2026 company announcement it reports over 30 million users.
How much does Higgsfield cost?
As listed on the official pricing page in October 2026: Starter is $15 per month with no annual difference and 200 credits; Plus is $49 monthly or $39 billed annually with 1,000 credits; Ultra is $129 monthly or $99 annually with a tiered allowance running from 3,000 up to 9,000 credits. Business plans are billed per seat. The free plan includes zero credits and does not grant commercial use, so it is a preview rather than a usable tier.
Do Higgsfield credits expire?
Subscription credits do not roll over — the monthly allowance resets at renewal, so an unused balance cannot fund next month. Separately purchased credits behave differently: Credit Pack, Auto-Refill and Boost credits expire 90 days after purchase. Spending order is fixed: subscription credits are consumed first, then remaining balances in order of soonest expiry. A large top-up bought to save money can simply expire if you cannot spend it within a quarter.
Why does my Higgsfield credit balance disappear so fast?
Because the monthly price does not tell you how many videos you get. Each model charges a different rate, and resolution roughly doubles it. On the official rates, a 5-second Kling 3.0 clip at 720p is about 7 credits while Seedance 2.0 at the same length and resolution is about 22 — and Seedance 2.0 at 4K is about 110. Starter's 200 credits is therefore roughly three Seedance 2.0 clips at 720p in a month, not a production budget. The Generate button shows the charge before you confirm; that number, not the plan price, is what to budget from.
Does Higgsfield unlimited access really mean free?
Only on the website. Higgsfield's help documentation states that Unlimited models and included free generations apply on higgsfield.ai, and that generations made through MCP, CLI, Canvas or Supercomputer always deduct credits regardless of plan. So moving an unchanged prompt into an automated workflow can change how it is billed. Unlimited windows also vary — most are labelled for 365 days, while newer flagship models carry much shorter windows such as 7 days — so check the plan card on the day you buy.
Can I get a refund from Higgsfield?
The published terms are narrow. A refund may be requested within 7 days of the initial purchase and only if zero credits have been used. Auto-renewed charges are stated as non-refundable, and where permitted a service fee of up to 6 percent may apply. In practice, generating even one video removes eligibility. Cancellation is handled from the account's payment settings page or by emailing support from the registered address. Because the refund window is short and conditional, the safer approach is to buy one month on monthly billing and measure your actual credit burn before committing to an annual discount.
Who owns what I generate on Higgsfield?
Per the terms of service, the company claims no ownership of your inputs or outputs and places no commercial restriction on what you generate on a paid plan, and those rights survive cancellation. The free plan is the exception: it does not include commercial use. Two further points matter. First, the same terms state that inputs and outputs may be used to train and improve Higgsfield's models, with enterprise agreements exempt. Second, you are responsible for having consent when you upload someone else's likeness or voice.
Is Higgsfield worth it compared with using Kling or Runway directly?
It depends on whether you value model choice or per-clip price. Higgsfield's advantage is breadth: one subscription and one credit balance reach dozens of models, so you can compare outputs without buying four subscriptions, and the API puts 50-plus models behind one key with a $5 minimum top-up. Its disadvantage is that the credit rates are set by Higgsfield rather than the model vendors, and costs inside the catalogue differ enormously — on official rates a 5-second 720p clip ranges from about 3 credits to about 22 depending on the model chosen. If you already know which model you want, buying it directly is usually cheaper; if you are still choosing, the aggregator earns its margin.
Does the Higgsfield API use my plan credits?
No. The API runs on a separate prepaid US dollar balance with a $5 minimum top-up, billed per second of video or per image, and funds expire one year after they are added. Website plans, plan credits and Unlimited access do not apply to API requests. Higgsfield states that failed and NSFW-flagged API requests are not billed and their cost returns to the balance automatically. By contrast, MCP and CLI do spend plan credits and require an active subscription.
